This picture is of the Hubbard Glacier, wide river of ice emptying into the Russell Fjord, adjacent to Yakutat Bay. The glacier is an unbelievable and breathtaking sight. It is a very rapidly advancing glacier, and can be heard creaking and groaning as it moves, sometimes sending a chunk of ice shooting into the water. The size of it is immense, six miles wide and nearly 400 feet above sea level (and 300 feet below!). It flows for 76 miles from Mt. Logan in the Yukon Territory to the bay.

P.S.: Merry Christmas!
